US President Donald Trump confirmed that an agreement had been reached and announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the lifting of the naval blockade on Iran.
“Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump said.
Iranian officials made it clear that a memorandum outlining the agreement is expected to be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
Negotiations on a final settlement are expected to continue for a further 60 days following the signing.
The agreement marks a significant step toward de-escalation after months of heightened tensions, with both sides now expected to work toward a comprehensive peace accord.
