Pakistani PM confirms zero-delay rollout of US-Iran framework

18 June 2026 09:53

Pakistan, which played a mediating role in negotiations between the United States and Iran, has expressed support for the recently signed memorandum, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stating on his X account that the agreement should enter into force immediately.

“Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.

I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump whose steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond,” Sharif said, reiterating parts of the agreement text.

The Pakistani prime minister added that his country, together with another mediator, Qatar, will hold an official ceremony in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, to mark this historic event and launch technical-level negotiations.

He also said the agreement at the highest governmental level demonstrates both sides’ commitment to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
