Pakistani PM warns of "disgusting reality" behind Hindu nationalist politics amid Sikh murder

23 September 2023 08:57

Pakistan's Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has issued a warning about the dangers of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) politics against the backdrop of Canada's recent allegations against India regarding the murder of a Sikh separatist leader, stating that it could lead to global conflict.

He made these remarks in New York on the sidelines of the UN summit while responding to journalists, as reported by the Pakistani Dawn magazine.

Addressing the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on the sidelines of the UNGA, the premier had linked Modi’s ideology of Hindu nationalism with Canada’s allegations against India. PM Kakar had previously expressed concern about the rise of Hindutva ideology and its implications, noting that this ideology was becoming increasingly emboldened and extended beyond the region, calling the murder of the Sikh leader an ominous reflection of this tendency.

In his recent interview ahead of his speech at the General Assembly, he emphasized that Pakistan would continue to raise this issue at various forums, not as propaganda against India but to highlight the disturbing reality behind Hindutva's political agenda, which he argued was rooted in fascism and chauvinism. He warned that this phenomenon could potentially engulf the entire region and the world in conflict.

PM Kakar also pointed out that Hindutva politics had affected the region, particularly Balochistan, and mentioned that Pakistan had evidence to support its claims, including the confession of the high-ranking Indian military officer Kulbhushan Jadhav. He expressed concern that this issue was now impacting Western capitals.

“We have been suffering this face and side of India but the problem is that this is hitting Western capitals now”, the interim minister said.
