Pakistani security forces defuse six IEDs, detain 14 suspects

Pakistani security forces defused six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and arrested 14 suspected individuals during a search operation in several areas of Miryan tehsil in Bannu district, according to a statement by police.

The statement said the operation involved personnel from the police, the Elite Force, the Quick Response Force, the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

During the operation, security forces also seized two Kalashnikov rifles, a repeater shotgun, four additional rifles, a quantity of ammunition and eight motorcycles.

Police said Bomb Disposal Unit specialists safely neutralised six IEDs containing a total of 120 kilograms of explosives in the Mumbati Barakzai and Khanikhel areas.

Meanwhile, the ongoing security operation has severely disrupted daily life across the district. Residents have largely remained confined to their homes, while shortages of essential food supplies have added to the difficulties faced by local communities.

Sources said ration packages for around 600 stranded families had been prepared and handed over to security forces for distribution once the security situation allows.

Heightened security measures and the closure of major roads have created widespread disruption, leaving many residents unable to move freely.

Key routes, including Bannu Police Lines Road, Predy Gate Road and Miranshah Road, remain closed, resulting in heavy traffic congestion. Although some markets have continued operating on a limited basis, commercial activity has been significantly reduced due to security concerns.

The suspension of internet and mobile phone services has also affected businesses, educational institutions and government operations throughout the district.
