Palestinian Captives Society releases names of prisoners to be freed in ceasefire
The press office of the Palestinian Captives Society has released a list of 1,718 Palestinians held by Israel in Gaza since October 2023 who are slated for release under a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Additionally, a list was published of 250 Palestinians serving life sentences, whom Israel has agreed to release, according to foreign media reports.
The statement noted that 143 of those sentenced to life imprisonment will be relocated outside occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan during talks held in Egypt.
The following day, October 10, the Israeli government formally approved the agreement as part of Trump’s plan.
The deal, designed to secure the release of all 48 remaining hostages — at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive, with seven already freed on October 13 — in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, represents a major diplomatic breakthrough in the Israel-Hamas conflict that escalated following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack.
