Palestinian president welcomes new wave of recognition of statehood
President Mahmoud Abbas has welcomed the official recognition of the state of Palestine by Monaco, Malta, Luxembourg, Andorra, and Belgium, calling each decision an “important and necessary step” toward achieving a just and lasting peace based on international law and the two-state solution.
Abbas stressed that recognition affirms the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, freedom, and independence, paving the way for Palestine to live side by side with Israel in peace, security, and good neighborliness, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
He emphasised that immediate priorities include a ceasefire, the entry of aid, the release of hostages and prisoners, Israel’s full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the assumption of responsibilities by the State of Palestine, the start of recovery and reconstruction, and an end to settlement activity and settler terrorism.
The president also reiterated the commitments and reforms undertaken by the state of Palestine, noting these in his recent official letters to the leaders of Malta, Luxembourg, and Belgium.
