Palestinian refugee camp death toll tops 190 With over 770 injured

02 November 2023 10:04

The radical Palestinian movement Hamas has said that at least 195 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip on October 31 and November 1.

Some 120 people are under the rubble, with 777 people injured, according to a statement by the movement published on the Facebook page of the Palestinian enclave's government (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognised as extremist in Russia), Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.

On October 31, the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip reported that Israel had launched a series of airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp. According to the ministry, at least 50 people became victims of the attack. The same data was given by the director of an Indonesian hospital located nearby. Later, the Palestinian Interior Ministry reported that the number of dead and injured exceeded 400, half of them children.

The press service of the Israel Defense Forces confirmed the information about the strike on Jabalia. The representative of the Israeli army, Jonathan Conricus, said that the target of the attack was an underground complex in which the commander of one of the Hamas combat units, Ibrahim Biari, was hiding. According to Conricus, Barry, who died as a result of the strike, played an important role in planning the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

Meanwhile, on the night of November 1 to 2, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that Hezbollah militants fired a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli UAV, but the drone was not damaged.

In response to the attempted fire, the IDF struck the militant group that fired at the Israeli UAV. It was recorded that the target was hit.

It is also reported that a number of rockets were launched from Lebanon towards the Mount Dov and Hermon area, which landed in open terrain. In response, IDF artillery forces struck targets in southern Lebanon.

Moreover, on the night of 2 November, the Lebanese militant organisation Hezbollah claimed to have shot down an Israeli drone with a surface-to-air missile over southern Lebanon.

The Hezbollah report did not specify the type of UAV.

The IDF confirmed the attack but said the UAV was unharmed. A retaliatory strike was launched.

According to a new IDF assessment of Hamas’s October 7 massacre, around 3,000 terrorists invaded southern Israel to carry out the murderous rampage through Gaza border towns.

Previously, the military had estimated that some 2,500 terror operatives took part in the unprecedented assault, which claimed the lives of some 1,400 people in Israel, mostly civilians butchered in their homes or at a music festival. The militants also seized at least 245 hostages of all ages, under the cover of a deluge of thousands of rockets fired at Israeli towns and cities.

The 3,000 figure in the latest assessment only includes armed terror operatives and not the waves of Gazan citizens who took advantage of the enormous gaps in the fence to also make their way inside later in the day.

The IDF also said that during the first two days of fighting, its forces killed around 1,000 militants in Israeli territory and captured another 200 and that there are many bodies of militants still scattered around the border area, and it intends to collect and tally them when it’s possible to do so without endangering soldiers’ lives.
