Panama-flagged vessel hits mine in the Black Sea PHOTO
A civilian vessel under the Panamanian flag has been the victim of a Russian sea mine explosion in the Black Sea. The bulk carrier was on its way to load grain in one of the Danube ports. Two people were injured.
RBC-Ukraine reports citing the Southern Ukrainian Defence Forces that the ship lost its course and control, and a fire broke out on the upper deck. To avoid flooding, the captain fixed the ship on the shoal.
The Maritime Safety and Search and Rescue Service boats immediately began to help the crew, taking medics on board.
"Two sailors were found injured while inspecting the ship and questioning the captain. One was treated on the spot and the other was taken to the nearest hospital for further examination. His condition is satisfactory," the Southern Command added.
At present, tugboats have been dispatched to the vessel to remove it from the shoal and take it to port.
