Paris steps up support for Kyiv with Mirage fighter jets due by March 2025
France plans to deliver Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of the first quarter of this year, according to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
“French Mirage aircraft will soon be in the Ukrainian skies,” Barrot stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He clarified that this is expected to happen by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
When asked whether France would send its troops to Ukraine after the conflict ends, the Foreign Minister declined to give a direct response. However, he emphasized the importance of preparing for peace.
“We must prepare – and by that, I mean France, Europe, and to some extent, the United States – to ensure peace guarantees for Ukraine once it is achieved,” Barrot explained.
To recall, the French fourth-generation multirole fighter was developed in the 1970s by Dassault Aviation. It has been in service since 1984.
It was the main combat aircraft of the French Air Force at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century.
Furthermore, it is also in service in several countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
