Pentagon addresses loss of first F-16 by Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Pentagon has responded to reports about the loss of the first F-16 fighter jet by Ukrainian forces, stating that it is not involved in the investigation of the incident.
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh clarified that the US has not received any requests from Ukraine for assistance in investigating the crash, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
“I have seen the reports, but there has been no request for support from our side or any inquiry from Ukraine regarding the investigation,” Singh said.
She emphasized that only Ukrainian authorities can provide details about the crash. The Pentagon will not confirm any specifics about the incident, including potential electronic equipment onboard the fighter jet. Singh advised seeking comments directly from Ukraine for further information.
On August 29, reports surfaced in US media that an F-16 fighter jet was destroyed in a crash in Ukraine on August 26.
They suggested that the incident occurred during a large-scale missile attack on Russia. Subsequently, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the F-16 crashed while defending against a Russian missile strike, resulting in the death of the pilot.
