Pentagon calls Ukrainian military achievements "a miracle"
The US defense ministry has commented on the military situation in Ukraine and the latest changes in Kyiv's combat tactics.
During a press conference, held on August 10, a journalist brought up the fact, that reports show that the Ukrainian army was reverting back to heavy artillery focused combat style, one that resembles Soviet tactics which they have experience in. He inquired whether it was realistic to expect that the Ukrainian army could master the US style of maneuverable war in a short period of exercise.
General Ryder replied, that he was "not going to stand on the podium, and guess the actions of the commander of the Ukrainian army front line", saying, that "the Ukrainians, despite everything, were able to push the Russians to defensive positions, which in itself is a miracle, given the state of the Ukrainian army at the time of the Russian invasion".
"They're in a tough fight. We've known, they've known from the beginning that, regardless of when any counter-offensive started, it was going to be a tough fight. So that's why you hear us say and it has the benefit of being true that we're going to continue to work with them to provide them with the capabilities they need, to include training. [...] And so you've seen a, you know, outpouring of support from around the world to provide them with incredible and significant combat capabilities and training", the Pentagon spokesperson said.
Ryder further praised the Ukrainian military, adding, that they achieved "outstanding results" when put it in perspective, "in terms of the capabilities that they have been able to develop and been able to execute in a very, very short period of time". "We're going to continue to consult with them, we're going to continue to provide them training so that they can take back sovereign territory and ultimately win this fight", Ryder assured.
