Pentagon concerned conflict with Iran could drag on for weeks

Officials at the Pentagon are increasingly worried that the ongoing conflict with Iran could intensify and last several weeks, The Washington Post reports.

“The mood here is intense and paranoid, one person said,” the report notes.

Officials fear that prolonged fighting could further deplete the already limited US air defence resources. “There is concern about this lasting more than a few days,” said another source, noting that intercepting a single missile may require “two or three air defense interceptors.”

Congressman Adam Smith warned that US resources are “stretched thin.”
