Pentagon orders defence contractors to ramp up weapons production

The US Defence Department has confirmed that it has instructed defence contractors to increase weapons production and deliveries.

“From day one under Secretary Hegseth, this Department has been focused on delivering generational change to the speed, capacity, and lethality of America’s defense industrial base and the Arsenal of Freedom,” USA Today quoted Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell as saying.

According to Parnell, the Defence Department is working on fixing what he described as the “broken, antiquated, and immensely complex acquisitions system” so that the United States can produce weapons at a pace matching the threats it faces.

Earlier, The Washington Post (WP), citing an internal Defence Department document, reported that Pentagon Deputy Secretary Steve Feinberg had given defence contractors three weeks to submit plans for significantly increasing the pace of weapons deliveries, calling the existing development cycles unacceptable.
