Pentagon plans massive boost in missile procurement targeting Russian S-400
The Pentagon is planning to increase spending on the procurement of the latest Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) systems by 3.5 times, with the missiles reportedly described as capable of destroying Russian S-400 air defence systems, according to budget documents cited by Russian media.
As stated in the documents, the US Armed Forces are set to spend $1.92 billion on PrSM missiles in the 2027 fiscal year. In 2026, only $546 million was allocated for the same purpose. The new plan, therefore, reflects a 3.5-fold increase in funding.
The US military first used PrSM missiles during an operation against Iran. The projectiles were developed as a replacement for the older ATACMS systems. The new missiles are said to offer significantly improved range and accuracy.
