Pentagon says 687 US service members wounded since start of Iran conflict

05 August 2026 10:54

A total of 687 U.S. service members have been wounded since the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28, according to the latest casualty figures released by the Pentagon.

The Pentagon said that during Operation "Epic Fury," which began in late February and officially concluded on May 5, 417 U.S. service members were wounded, and 14 were killed.

The Defence Department also maintains a separate tally of casualties sustained during overseas operations from July 7 to the present, although it does not specify the locations of those operations. According to the latest figures, four U.S. service members have been killed and 270 wounded during that period.

The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz.
