Petrol reaches €2 per litre in France, diesel sets new record
01 April 2026 14:44
The average price of SP95-E10 petrol in France reached the symbolic mark of €2 per litre on April 1, approaching its 2022 record, while diesel exceeded its historical maximum.
Since February 27, following the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, SP95-E10 has risen by 28 cents per litre (+16%), and diesel has increased by more than 50 cents (+30%), reaching €2.243 per litre at some petrol stations, Caliber.Az reports, citing BFM.
The surge in prices is attributed to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions to oil exports, which are putting additional pressure on the economy and reducing consumers’ purchasing power, particularly in the transport, agriculture, and fishing sectors.
