Plane strikes person fatally on Denver airport runway
A man was struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines aircraft on a runway at Denver International Airport in the United States, while 12 people onboard sustained injuries, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing airport officials.
According to the outlet, shortly after midnight local time, the man jumped over a fence and was almost immediately hit by the aircraft while attempting to cross the runway.
He died from his injuries. The victim is believed not to have been an airport employee, and his identity has not yet been confirmed.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the pilot immediately stopped the aircraft’s movement and reported an engine fire to air traffic control.
There were 231 passengers on board. They were evacuated onto the runway as a precaution. Twelve people suffered minor injuries, five of whom were taken to hospital.
