PM: Czech Republic delivers 500,000 shells to Ukraine in 2025

05 May 2025 20:20

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has said that since the beginning of 2025, Ukraine has received 500,000 large-caliber shells as part of an initiative launched by the Czech Republic in 2024.

He made these remarks during a briefing following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Prague, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

Fiala confirmed that the delivery of the shells is part of an international effort to supply ammunition to Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict.

He also highlighted that, through Prague’s mediation, Ukraine has been equipped with over 2,000 pieces of heavy weaponry, including 620 artillery guns, nearly 300 tanks, and more than 50 rocket launchers.

“Since the start of the year, 500,000 large-caliber shells have been delivered to Ukraine as part of the Czech initiative,” Fiala said, emphasizing that this is a significant contribution to Ukraine's defence efforts.

In addition to ammunition supplies, Fiala announced that the Czech Republic will continue to support Ukraine by training Ukrainian pilots on Czech-made L-159 aircraft, further strengthening the country's military capabilities.

The Czech Republic, together with 11 other partner countries, has committed to extending the delivery of heavy munitions to Ukraine. This effort will continue until 2026, with a total of 1.8 million shells expected to be delivered during this period.

President Petr Pavel, following his meeting with President Zelenskyy, assessed the likelihood of a peaceful resolution to the conflict in 2025 as "zero," acknowledging the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces.
