Poland cancels Kanye West concert over “promotion of Nazism”
A scheduled concert by Kanye West in Poland has been cancelled following public backlash over his statements, which authorities described as antisemitic.
The performance is planned for June 19 at the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium, was called off after the venue terminated its agreement to host the event. The decision was confirmed by the stadium’s director, according to Delfi.
The cancellation comes amid mounting criticism of the artist, with Polish authorities taking a firm stance. Earlier, the Ministry of Culture said it was working to prevent the concert from going ahead.
Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska stated that “Kanye West’s behaviour, associated with the promotion of Nazism, contradicts Polish values,” referencing Poland’s historical experience during World War II, when Nazi Germany committed mass crimes on its territory.
She added that authorities have legal mechanisms to deny entry to individuals deemed undesirable and indicated readiness to use them if necessary.
The controversy surrounding West has intensified in recent years due to his previous statements and actions. His concerts have been cancelled or postponed in multiple countries. France and the United Kingdom have also previously restricted his performances, citing public reaction and security concerns related to the events.
