Poland concludes air force operation following major Russian strike on Kyiv
Poland’s Armed Forces have announced the conclusion of a military air operation following a large-scale Russian strike on Kyiv, saying that the country’s airspace was not violated.
“The air force operation in Polish airspace, conducted in response to the Russian attacks on Ukraine, has now concluded. Ground-based air defence and radar systems have returned to normal operations,” the military command stated on social media platform X on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the command confirmed that forces and equipment had been mobilised according to established procedures.
Fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar units were put on alert. Officials stressed that the measures were precautionary, aimed at safeguarding Polish airspace, particularly in areas close to potential threats.
“Subordinate forces and assets remain ready to respond immediately, and the situation is being closely monitored,” the statement added.
The Russian attack on Kyiv is reported to be one of the largest since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
