17 February 2026 14:11

Polish authorities have detained a Moldovan national who brought an oil freight train to a halt by activating the hand brake in a cargo wagon traveling on the Szczecin–Dorohusk route.

At the time of his arrest, the 25-year-old man was positioned between the train cars, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.

He was apprehended on February 16 at around 16:00 local time (19:00 Baku time) at a railway station in Puławy, Lublin Voivodeship. The train was carrying oil tankers.

The suspect, identified as a Moldovan citizen, was found with a bag containing mobile phones, electronic devices, SIM cards, a power bank, and documents in Russian.

Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office, Military Counterintelligence Service, Internal Security Agency, and the Central Bureau of Investigation were notified of the incident.

The freight train near which the man was detained was inspected for hazardous materials, but none were found.
