Poland investigates unidentified drone found at military facility
A small unmanned aerial vehicle has been discovered on the grounds of a Polish military unit in northern Poland, authorities have said.
The device was found at the 2nd Mechanised Battalion in Morąg, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland, Caliber.Az reports.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Military Gendarmerie said the drone was discovered on February 16 and that its unit in Morąg had opened an investigation into the incident the following day.
Preliminary findings indicate that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) bore no military markings and did not cause any damage. Authorities have not provided further details about its origin.
The gendarmerie reminded the public that unauthorised flights, including over military installations, are prohibited under Polish law and can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.
Daniel Brodowski, a spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn, told local media that prosecutors were not overseeing the case. He added that the device did not contain any electronic recording components.
The investigation remains ongoing.
