Poland plans to send limited number of Patriot missiles to Ukraine

17 September 2026 12:33

Poland is planning to provide Ukraine with a small number of Patriot air-defence missiles as part of a broader military assistance package, according to the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, which cited government and military sources.

The report follows statements by Ukrainian Defence Ministry representatives that Poland’s latest contribution to Ukraine would be worth around €50 million and include air-defence equipment.

Maj. Gen. Ireneusz Nowak, operational commander of the Polish Armed Forces, told Rzeczpospolita that Poland could transfer Patriot missiles up to the number previously declared, although the exact figure remains classified. He indicated that the planned delivery would involve only a limited number of missiles rather than a large-scale transfer.

Poland is also seeking access to Ukrainian drone and missile technologies in exchange for transferring military equipment, but negotiations over the proposed arrangement have reportedly stalled.

Nowak said Poland could also consider providing Ukraine with older, Soviet-designed equipment still in service with the Polish military, arguing that such systems could remain useful to Ukrainian forces even if they require extensive refurbishment.

Given Poland’s own limited stockpiles, the reported Patriot transfer is expected to involve only a few missiles rather than dozens. The exact number and timing of any delivery have not been publicly disclosed.
