Warsaw proposes US-Ukraine-Poland Patriot missile production plan

24 July 2026 15:57

Poland has proposed establishing a trilateral framework with the United States and Ukraine to jointly produce missiles for Patriot air defence systems, suggesting that manufacturing take place in a “safe location” to address security concerns.

Speaking after talks at the Pentagon, Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said the discussions built on remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump during the NATO summit in Ankara regarding the potential establishment of a Patriot missile production facility in Ukraine.

“We talked about what U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned during the [NATO] summit in Ankara, namely his statement that the creation of a plant in Ukraine for the production of [Patriot] missiles would be considered,” Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said at a press conference broadcast by Polsat.

“The proposal of the Polish side, which I presented today, addresses the concerns of the American side. We proposed that cooperation on this issue could be conducted in a triangle between the United States, Ukraine and Poland,” she said. “The point is that production should take place in a safe location,” she added.

Trump has previously said Washington would grant Kyiv a license to manufacture missiles for Patriot systems. However, Bloomberg has reported that establishing interceptor missile production in Ukraine would take significant time and would not provide a rapid solution to replenish the country’s air defence stocks.
