Poland's Chorzów to host 2028 European Athletics Championships

Poland will host the 2028 European Athletics Championships, marking the first time the country has been selected to stage the senior continental event, RMF reported, citing the European Athletics Association.

The championships are scheduled to take place in June 2028 at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, just one month before the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

While Poland has previously hosted junior and team European championships as well as indoor competitions, this will be its first time organising the senior European Athletics Championships. Since 2022, the Silesian venue has also regularly hosted Diamond League meetings.

European Athletics Association President Dobromir Karamarinov praised the host region’s track record, stating that Silesia “consistently demonstrates the ability to host world-class competitions.” He also noted that European Championships held shortly before the Olympics have often served as indicators of future Olympic success.

Sebastian Chmara, head of the Polish Athletics Federation, described the decision as historic, emphasising that Poland has received the right to host the senior European Championships for the first time.
