Poland's top dilpomat says 30 nations willing to help maintain peace in Ukraine

02 April 2025 17:17

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has revealed that approximately 30 countries have expressed their willingness to assist in maintaining peace in Ukraine once a ceasefire is established.

In an exclusive interview with Spanish newspaper El País, Sikorski emphasized the international support that could play a crucial role in stabilizing the region following the cessation of hostilities, Caliber.Az reports.

He highlighted the importance of utilizing advanced resources, stating that the United States would need to provide intelligence, space, and air support to facilitate peacekeeping operations.

“From the US, we would need at least some of their intelligence, space, and air resources,” Sikorski explained, adding that, “It has become clear today that around 30 countries have already declared their readiness to support peace, with the understanding that the 1,300 km contact line will be maintained by the Ukrainians themselves.”

The Polish foreign minister also expressed skepticism about the European Union’s capacity to take on the role of deterring Russia.

He underscored that the task of maintaining long-term peace and security in the region was too vast for the EU alone to manage.

“For us, this is too large a task,” Sikorski said. “To achieve this, efforts from NATO as a whole will be essential.”

In December 2024, EU leaders reiterated their condemnation of Russia's actions and reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the UN Charter and in line with Ukraine's peace formula. This stance was reinforced during the European Council meeting held in Brussels, where discussions focused on the EU's role in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In March 2025, a coalition of over 30 countries, including EU member states, convened in Paris to discuss the establishment of an international security force for Ukraine. This coalition aims to deter renewed aggression and support a potential ceasefire. The discussions addressed various aspects of deploying peacekeeping forces and ensuring long-term stability in the region.
