Poland secures $175 million deal with US for AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles
Poland has secured a $175 million deal to acquire over 200 AIM-9X Sidewinder short-range missiles for its F-16 fighter jets, as announced by Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Bejda.
Deliveries of these missiles are scheduled to commence in 2028, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"Done! Eight months after receiving approval from the US Congress, we have finalized the procurement of 232 AIM-9X missiles for both current and future Polish combat aircraft. Today, the Armaments Agency signed the contract for approximately $175 million," Bejda stated.
In addition to the missiles, the contract includes supplementary components such as spare parts, a logistics package, and a training programme, according to the Armaments Agency's statement.

In March, Poland and the United States agreed on the sale of AGM-158B-2, AIM-120C-8, and AIM-9X missiles to Warsaw, along with related equipment worth approximately $3.7 billion. The deal received approval from Congress at the end of March.
In October, Jacek Siewiera, head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, stated that as part of its deterrence policy, Poland should establish an arsenal of cluster munitions.
Earlier, there were calls in Poland for the reinstatement of universal conscription.
