Poland seeks expanded US military presence in country

Poland is expecting an increase in the number of US troops stationed on its territory, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said in an interview with Rzeczpospolita.

“We are counting on an increase in the presence of American troops in Poland,” he said, adding that this “does not depend on the situation in the Middle East.”

Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that talks with the United States on strengthening NATO’s eastern flank have been ongoing for a long time, and current international developments are not hindering these plans.

He added that the programme to expand the US military presence has been under development for several months.

Currently, around 10,000 US service members are stationed in Poland.
