Poland strengthens border with Belarus with new barrier

Construction has begun on an additional security barrier along the border between Poland and Belarus, reinforcing the existing fence, according to RMF24.

The new structure includes a four-metre fence along a service road, as well as barbed wire fencing and a two-metre barrier on the forest side. The project is planned to cover the entire 186-kilometre stretch of the border in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, with completion expected by the end of spring.

According to Commander Brigadier General Sławomir Klekotka, construction has begun simultaneously at five different locations, with initial efforts focused on the areas identified as most vulnerable to illegal crossings.

He said the new infrastructure is intended to slow down attempts at illegal migration, giving border guards more time to respond, detain individuals, and confiscate equipment used in crossings.
