Poland to build town to permanently host 5,000 US troops
Poland plans to finance the construction of a military town to host 5,000 US service members and their families, Poland’s Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski has stated.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said the country has proposed to the Pentagon that US troops be stationed in Poland permanently, Caliber.Az reports.
According to him, this means Poland needs to build a small city for the unit.
“We will cover the costs,” Zalewski noted.
The deputy minister stressed that the United States is expected to present Warsaw with options to avoid a reduction in the American military presence in Poland.
Warsaw hopes that new facilities and housing for troops will enable permanent deployment of US units.
Zalewski did not specify the exact location of the planned facility or provide details on timelines or costs.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced his decision to deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland.
