Poland to cut fuel prices, PM Donald Tusk says

13 August 2026 18:51

Poland’s government has decided to reinstate a program capping gasoline and diesel prices amid rising fuel costs, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said.

At a press conference, Tusk noted that together with the finance minister, he has decided to restore most of the “Lower Fuel Prices” program, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

In his words, the program will take effect on Monday, August 17, and remain in place until the end of summer.

According to him, fuel prices are expected to fall by 1 zloty ($0.26).

On March 30, the Polish government introduced a program to curb gasoline and diesel prices at all filling stations across the country, which remained in effect until June 15. The Energy Ministry set maximum prices for gasoline and diesel, while companies selling fuel above the limit faced fines of up to 1 million zlotys (about $270,000).

On August 6, Polish Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka said a decision on restoring government regulation of automotive fuel prices could be made within days.
