Poland, Ukraine sign MoU to boost energy cooperation
Poland’s leading energy company Orlen and Ukraine’s state-owned Naftogaz Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to intensify cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on hydrocarbon exploration, oil and gas production, infrastructure development, and cross-border commercial ties.
The agreement lays out plans to expand natural gas supplies from Poland to Ukraine, while jointly developing oil and gas fields, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The initiative is expected to bolster Ukraine’s energy resilience and improve its access to diversified energy sources amid ongoing regional challenges.
The memorandum also opens the door for Naftogaz to leverage Orlen’s engineering know-how, particularly in the modernisation of the Kremenchuk oil refinery—a critical facility damaged during Russia’s invasion—and in the rehabilitation of Ukraine’s gas infrastructure.
Beyond fossil fuels, both companies aim to pursue joint investments in fuel distribution systems and the biofuels sector, advancing cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. This marks the second strategic partnership between Orlen and Naftogaz.
The first saw Orlen commit to delivering 300 million cubic metres of US-sourced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine. At present, Orlen is a significant supplier of oil products to Ukraine, including gasoline, diesel, and bitumen, and also provides technical services for upstream hydrocarbon operations.
