Grenade attack targets western Ukraine police; ex-soldier arrested PHOTO / Updated
A man has been detained in the Chernivtsi region after allegedly throwing a grenade at a police service vehicle in Storozhynets on the evening of February 19.
The explosion left one officer with serious injuries and another with minor wounds. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, National Police said.
The suspect, a 48-year-old local resident and former military serviceman, was apprehended overnight. Authorities also discovered additional dangerous items during a search of his vehicle.
The police have launched a pre-trial investigation into the attack.

A police operation has been launched in the town of Storozhynets in Ukraine’s Chernivtsi district following an explosion that left two officers injured.
According to Ukraine’s National Police, an unidentified individual threw an explosive device — believed to be a grenade — towards a marked police vehicle. The device detonated, wounding two law enforcement officers.
Both officers have received medical assistance. Their condition has not yet been disclosed.
Investigative and operational teams are working at the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details are expected to be released later.
