Police probe possible drug link after two Antwerp explosions

Police are investigating two explosions that occurred within minutes of each other in central Antwerp early Tuesday, September 22, damaging several buildings but causing no injuries, Belgian news agency Belga reported, citing local police.

The first explosion occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday. A second blast followed several minutes later on another street, several hundred meters from the site of the first explosion.

According to police, nobody was injured in either incident, although several buildings were damaged.

No arrests have been made in connection with the explosions so far. Investigators are examining whether the two incidents were linked.

Authorities are also considering a possible connection to the illegal drug trade as part of their investigation. Belgian bomb disposal experts were deployed to the scene following the explosions.
