Police search metro tunnels after armed men open fire in central Brussels

Belgian authorities are searching for armed individuals following a shooting incident outside a metro station in central Brussels.

Surveillance footage shows at least two men, dressed in balaclavas and carrying what appeared to be Kalashnikov rifles, at the entrance of Clémenceau station early February 5 morning, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

The video footage from the scene reveals a gunfire exchange around 06:15 local time (05:15 GMT). Sarah Frederickx, a spokeswoman for the Brussels police, stated that the suspects fled into the metro station and may still be hiding in the metro tunnels.

The spokeswoman confirmed that there were no reported injuries from the shooting. Both local police and federal railway authorities are actively searching the area. 

Clémenceau station has been closed, along with the nearby Brussels-Midi station, which also serves as the Eurostar terminal. Additionally, two metro lines in the heart of Brussels have been suspended, running from Gare de l'Ouest to Trône, which is near the European Parliament.
