Polish Defence Ministry confirms ongoing negotiations with Pentagon
Poland is in talks with the Pentagon regarding an expansion of US military capabilities in the country, Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski has said.
Speaking on RMF24, Zalewski noted that he could neither confirm nor deny possible redeployment of American troops from Germany, stressing that final decisions rest with the United States.
According to him, Poland’s main objective is to strengthen the US presence and NATO capabilities on the alliance’s eastern flank. He added that this approach has support within the Pentagon.
The deputy minister also linked discussions on the future of US presence in Europe to the concept of “NATO 3.0”, which envisages a greater role for European countries in defence and a redistribution of responsibilities within the alliance.
At the same time, he underlined that any changes will depend on decisions made in Washington and on the level of defence spending by European allies.
