Polish government wants permits for Ukrainian carriers to be restored

30 November 2023 18:49

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said the government would seek to restore permits for Ukrainian carriers, which is one of the demands of the carriers blocking checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The prime minister added that he admitted to several carriers' demands, including restoring permits for carriers from Ukraine to enter the EU, Ukrainska Pravda reports with reference to Polskie Radio.

"Our delegation in Kyiv agreed on certain changes that may lead to the passing of those trucks that return empty across the border, and this will reduce, at least to a certain extent, the traffic jam and the protest at the same time," Money.pl wrote, citing Morawiecki.

Polish Minister of Infrastructure Alvin Gajadhur presented information about the current situation on the Ukrainian border in the Polish Sejm.

He said he was talking with representatives of the carriers for three hours. The minister noted they managed to reach some positive solutions. In particular, the protesters abandoned the blockade of two more checkpoints.

A protest rally by Polish hauliers began on 6 November and still persists at three border checkpoints between Poland and Ukraine, letting only a handful of trucks pass in an hour. The blockade of Medyka-Shehyni, another checkpoint, started last week.

On 28 November, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland stated that it turned to Ukraine with a proposal that may lift the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border. In addition, the EU Council will also discuss the situation on the level of transport ministers.
