Polish leader: Europe faces chaos while ignoring key security threats
Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that the European Union is in a state of chaos.
According to Delfi, he made the remarks during a press conference in Riga with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
Nawrocki emphasised that Central European countries have been warning for many years about a crisis and chaos in the EU, as well as about Europe focusing on issues that are not the most important.
“We are next to an aggressive, imperial Russia, yet we are dealing with matters that are important for Europe’s existence. Here, in Latvia, in Poland, in Romania, European security begins,” he said.
Commenting on the new American national security strategy, the Polish president added that it is not a surprise for those who follow President Trump’s statements and stressed that Europe needs to take responsibility for its own security and fund it independently.
“The European Union is in a state of chaos, and the essence of democracy is to speak about it. I support Poland’s participation in the EU, but we need to ask the question: is the Union heading in the right direction?” Nawrocki concluded.
