Polish MEP destroys monument on Ukraine border

Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun has destroyed a monument to what he described as collaborators of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) on the border with Ukraine, according to foreign media.

“This obelisk insults the memory of Poles who became victims of genocide,” Braun said.

The monument, erected in the 1990s, was a human-sized boulder bearing the names of people killed during the conflict.

Braun said local residents had been afraid to remove it, fearing retaliation from Ukrainians.
