Polish MEP opposes Ukraine’s EU accession over migration concerns

30 January 2026 13:34

Polish Member of the European Parliament Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik has sharply criticised the prospects of further migration of Ukrainian citizens to Poland, describing it as a negative factor for the country.

In a post on social network X, the politician said that the mass influx of Ukrainians has become “terrible news” for Poland, Caliber.Az reports.

Zajączkowska-Hernik also argued that Ukrainian citizens of military age should be deported back to their homeland, stating that “they should defend their country.”

She referred to data from the National Bank of Ukraine indicating that around 400,000 Ukrainians may leave the country in 2026 and beyond. In her view, a significant portion of them are likely to head to Poland.

“More than 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens already live in our country, and within a very short period we can expect the arrival of several hundred thousand more. Added to this is Ukraine’s readiness to join the European Union as early as 2027, which would lead to an even greater influx of immigrants and the flooding of our country with Ukrainian agricultural and food products. Taken together, all of this poses a huge socio-economic threat to Poland, which makes it even more important to oppose Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” Zajączkowska-Hernik stressed.
