“The conversation among European leaders has concluded, during which we assessed the information conveyed by President Trump and the outcomes of the Alaska meeting,” he wrote.
“Together with [French President] Emmanuel Macron, [German Chancellor] Friedrich Merz, [UK Prime Minister] Keir Starmer, and [Italian Prime Minister] Giorgia Meloni, we heard President Zelenskyy’s views and prepared a joint statement,” he added.
Zelenskyy will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on August 18 to discuss ways to end the ongoing war.
“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
The announcement came shortly after Zelenskyy held a phone call with Trump following the summit in Alaska between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where no ceasefire was agreed.
“We had a long and substantive conversation with President Donald J. Trump,” Zelenskyy said of the call. “We started with one-on-one conversation before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump.”
“It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America,” he added. “We also discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security.”
