Polish PM sounds alarm: NATO must wake up to Russian threats

30 May 2026 15:25

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on NATO members to treat recent statements by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, with greater seriousness, warning of increasing tensions and provocations in the region.

In a post on X, Tusk pointed to a pattern of incidents involving Russia across several countries bordering the alliance. He specifically referenced developments in Poland, the Baltic states, and Romania.

"Poland, Baltic states, now Romania. More and more Russian provocations. Yesterday the former president Dmitry Medvedev said that the peaceful sleep of the EU citizens is over. Everyone in NATO should finally start taking these facts and words seriously," Tusk wrote.

His comments came in response to remarks made a day earlier by Medvedev, who stated that citizens of the European Union, as populations of countries involved in the conflict, would no longer be able to “sleep peacefully.” He suggested this would be particularly true in areas where facilities producing unmanned aerial vehicles for Ukraine are located.

Medvedev also referred to a recent incident involving a drone crashing into a residential building in Romania, using it as part of his broader warning about the potential consequences for European countries.
