Polish police investigate mystery balloon near capital
11 April 2026 14:55
An unidentified balloon has been discovered near the outskirts of Warsaw.
The object was found in the village of Duchnów, located in Otwock County, just outside the capital, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
Initial assessments suggest the balloon may have been used for cigarette smuggling and could have drifted into Poland from neighbouring Belarus.
However, investigators found no evidence of contraband attached to the device. No SIM card or GPS tracker was recovered at the scene, raising further questions about its origin and purpose.
Police officers from the Otwock district headquarters are currently examining the site as part of an ongoing inquiry.
