06 August 2026 19:42

Polish authorities have arrested five Georgian nationals on suspicion of assaulting, robbing, and attempting to kidnap a Belarusian citizen in Warsaw, prosecutors said following an investigation into the violent late-July incident.

The attack took place in the capital's Ochota district after a 25-year-old Belarusian man deposited money at an ATM. He was allegedly ambushed by a group of five men who attempted to force him into a vehicle before stealing his belongings, RMF 24 reports.

The victim sustained head injuries during the assault. The suspects reportedly fled the scene with a bag containing several thousand Polish zlotys in cash, as well as the victim's mobile phone.

Police launched an investigation that led officers to the village of Duchnów, where the five suspects were located and taken into custody.

After the brutal attack, the perpetrators fled the scene. Warsaw police tracked the suspects down in the village of Duchnów. During a search of their residence, officers recovered some of the stolen property. The detained suspects are between 23 and 29 years old.

Investigators recovered part of the stolen property during searches of the suspects' residence, according to the broadcaster.

All five men have been formally charged with robbery and attempted kidnapping. A Polish court has ordered that they remain in pretrial detention for three months while the investigation continues.
