Polish president calls to delay Ukraine’s EU, NATO membership talks
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has called for delaying discussions on Ukraine’s potential membership in the European Union and NATO, citing the ongoing conflict with Russia as a key obstacle.
Speaking to the media, Nawrocki described current debates on Ukraine’s integration into Western institutions as premature. He stressed that no country engaged in an active conflict can join NATO, warning that such a move could compel Poland to become involved militarily.
The president also highlighted that Poland’s own path to EU membership took many years and required careful consideration of numerous factors.
“Of course, I believe that Ukraine should eventually be part of civilisation, if we refer to Latin or Western civilisation. However, in my opinion, today’s discussion about Ukraine’s EU membership is premature,” Nawrocki said.
