Polish president, PM clash over remarks on giving up territory

18 September 2026 11:33

Polish President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk have publicly disagreed over remarks about the possibility of Poland giving up territory.

Speaking in Włodawa at an event marking the 87th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland, Nawrocki said the country could lose territory but would never surrender its homeland, Caliber.Az reports via presidential service on X.

“We are a people who may lose territory, but will never lose our spirit. We may cede territory, but we will never surrender our homeland,” Nawrocki said.

Tusk responded directly, urging Nawrocki to remove the post and stressing that Poland had no intention of relinquishing any of its territory.

“Mr. President, I suggest you delete this post. We have no intention of giving up a single scrap of our territory,” Tusk wrote.
