Politico: EU Commission uses AI to speed up membership reviews
The European Commission has begun using artificial intelligence technologies to accelerate the processing of applications from countries seeking to join the European Union, Politico reported, citing sources.
The outlet said relevant experts have started using an internal neural network to assess whether candidate countries’ national legislation aligns with the EU’s legal framework, one of the most time-consuming stages of the enlargement process, Caliber.Az reports.
Politico writes that the introduction of such technological tools comes amid a sharp increase in workload for the Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement, driven by intensified negotiations across multiple accession tracks.
At the same time, some EU officials have warned that the system may be prone to errors and stressed that overreliance on AI should be avoided.
