Politico names behind-the-scenes architect of White House strategy
Andy Baker, the U.S. deputy national security adviser, plays a key role in shaping the foreign policy line of President Donald Trump’s administration, Politico reports.
Although he largely operates behind the scenes, Baker is said to be involved in drafting some of the toughest national security decisions, particularly those concerning Europe.
According to the outlet, Baker has become an influential figure within the inner circle of Vice President J.D. Vance. He helps shape Vance’s foreign policy views and exerts influence over the White House’s strategic decision-making.
“Andy was a key adviser involved in defining the initial contours of the negotiations on Ukraine, including issues such as the minerals agreement,” said Alex Wong, former deputy national security adviser.
Wong said Baker and Vance are focused on bringing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to an end.
