POLITICO reporter barred from White House despite court order

The US Secret Service confiscated a POLITICO reporter’s press pass on September 24 morning, hours after a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to restore White House access to three news organizations whose credentials had been revoked.

The incident occurred despite US District Judge Timothy Kelly’s ruling that the media ban appeared to violate the constitutional due process rights of the affected outlets.

A POLITICO reporter was denied entry to the White House and had his press credentials confiscated after Kelly issued a temporary restraining order on September 24 requiring the administration to immediately restore access to POLITICO, CNN and MS NOW for at least two weeks while further litigation proceeds.

The three outlets had been barred from entering the White House complex and had their press passes seized on September 19.

The judge’s order came as the dispute over media access to the White House continues to unfold in federal court.
