Pop icon Madonna voices support for Iranian protesters “HOLD TIGHT”
Pop star Madonna expressed her support for protesters in Iran on Instagram, urging them to “hold tight.”
In her post, she highlighted the restrictions faced by women in Iran, as well as limitations on freedom of speech, dress, and movement, Caliber.Az reports.
Madonna emphasised her solidarity with those seeking change in the country.
“The people of Iran have not known freedom for centuries I cannot claim to truly know the suffering that has been endured but my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Iran,” she wrote.
Nationwide protests erupted in Iran on December 28, 2025, sparked by a sharp economic collapse and the plunging value of the rial.
The unrest quickly spread to major cities, becoming one of the largest anti‑government movements since 1979, with demonstrators denouncing inflation, unemployment, and demanding systemic reform.
The Iranian government has responded with a severe security crackdown, deploying live ammunition, carrying out mass arrests, and imposing strict communication restrictions that have hampered media coverage and drawn international concern.
Rights groups and international organisations report widespread unlawful force against largely peaceful protesters, documenting mass injuries, arrests, deaths, and serious violations of civil liberties amid ongoing unrest.
